Gift Ideas: The St. Louis Local

If you are shopping for a St. Louis local and want to give them something to do instead of more stuff, we have some great ideas.

Christmas Gifts for St. Louis Locals

Endangered Wolf Center Pack Member
The Endangered Wolf Center in Eureka is a nonprofit designed to protect and repopulate the endangered wolf population. I first went here during a school field trip. Earlier this year a litter of Mexican gray wolf pups was born here. Becoming a pack member is a $45 commitment but you get a subscription to the newsletter, an invite to a member appreciation day, a free two-hour guided tour for two, 10% discount at the gift shop, and more. If you like zoos, consider helping out animals who desperately need your help.

Lantern Festival Gift Certificates
I’ve talked about the rare chance at seeing the upcoming Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.  If you want to gift someone the chance to see the festival, buy them a gift certificate so they can choose the date convenient for them. Adult certificates are $22 while child certificates cost $10.

Movie Music of John Williams
This is a gift that will be used the same week as Christmas. The St. Louis Symphony will be playing the music of John Williams Friday, December 30, 2011 at 7:00 PM in Powell Hall. Tickets start at just $35 each and there’s also a Thursday evening option available. Music selections come from Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, and Star Wars.

Feed Me Fondue at the Kitchen Conservatory
Buy admission for yourself and a friend or date for a hands on experience at the Kitchen Conservatory in St. Louis. The price of admission is $125 or  $62.50/person. You’ll make New Year’s citrus champagne punch, garlicky beef broth fondue (with beef tenderloin, portobello mushrooms, shrimp and scallops), chipotle-cheddar fondue (with roasted potatoes and grilled chicken), and caramel fondue with apple wedges. This class is held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 6-8:30 PM. If fondue isn’t your thing there are plenty of classes to choose from.

St. Louis Blues vs. Nashville Predators
If you know a St. Louis sports fan then they’ll definitely like the looks of some Blues hockey tickets. The Blues might not always be the strongest team (though the new coach has been pushing them hard) but a Blues game is always fun with the lively crowd and power play dance. They’ll be playing the Predators at Scottrade Center on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 7:00 PM. I’ve found tickets as low as $38 ($47.30 with processing fees).

And a late addition to the lineup: A new Cardinals jersey or shirt for your favorite baseball fan. With Albert Pujols jumping ship to the Angels I’m sure a lot of people are going to want to trade in their old jerseys for another player’s. Someone like David Freese might be a good choice considering his meteoric rise in the post-season.
