Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic by Night

I’ve talked about my love for the Missouri Botanical Garden recently. One of the reasons I love the gardens is because they work so hard to link gardening, art, and culture together. So naturally I’m looking forward to the upcoming Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

The exhibit is set to run in St. Louis from May 26 through August 19, 2012. Officially titled “Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic by Night” the exhibit will focus on the Chinese Lantern Festival and will be open daily for the art. If you want to see the magic, you’ll have to stop by on Thursdays through Sundays for special evening hours. At night is when the lanterns are lit so you won’t want to miss it. The evening admission for adults will be $22 while the exhibit is included for the price of regular admission during the daytime hours. This is the first exhibit of its kind in the United States. During the evening exhibit you’ll see acrobatics and street performers in addition to the lanterns.

During the opening weekend of May 26-May 28, 2012 (Memorial Day), the gardens will have special exhibits and presentations. There will be a parade with a 70-foot Chinese dragon, calligraphy, tea tastings, special Chinese cuisine, acrobats, and a lantern lighting every evening at sunset.

You can now buy tickets for the Missouri Botanical Garden lantern festival online. If you’re looking for the perfect holiday gift for friends and family in St. Louis, they also have gift certificates for the event.
