Shopping in St. Louis

As part of my Summer in St. Louis 2011 goals, I challenged myself to visit stores in the area that I had never been to. One of my inspirations was the St. Louis City Guide collaborated on by Andrea Avery and Design*Sponge. The guide lists out places to shop, eat, and other ways to explore St. Louis. The home I live in was built in 1941 and since 2006 it’s been under renovation in some way or another. I wanted to try out a new store that might put the finishing touches on our first fully complete room. So where did I go?

I staked out one of my favorite catalog companies, Home Decorators Collection. I knew their distribution center was located in St. Louis but I was surprised to learn they had a retail store here as well. So last week I made the trip down there and shopped around. Unfortunately, I was a bit spoiled by the catalog. I knew what specific items I wanted from it and neither were in the store. Thankfully the store was full of beautiful items that I did fall in love with, I just hadn’t budgeted for them on that trip.

I currently have several pieces of bathroom furniture from Home Decorators Collection and while they are sturdy, I wasn’t sure their entire inventory would be. I was pleasantly surprised at the furniture I saw in the store and I have to say that the Martha Stewart collection is especially sturdy and gorgeous. This desk had to be one of my favorite items from the store that day.

The chairs inside the store were so comfy and beautiful. And look at that wall of clocks up there on the right. I may be dragging my husband back to pick one out. Just out of frame in this photo is a giant wall of rugs offered by the company. I was a little overwhelmed in the store but I’ve since found one online that I hope to look for on a return trip.

Mixed in with all the furniture and rugs are some beautiful accessories. In the photo above you’ll see lamps, bedding, candle stands, baskets, wall art, and even a beautiful bird cage. I was surprised by how current the styles were and I suspect it all has to do with the fact that Home Decorators Collection is affiliated with Home Depot.

St. Louis isn’t the only location for Home Decorators. They have 2 stores in the greater Chicago area, one outside Kansas City, another in New Jersey and they just opened a store in Alpharetta, Georgia. The Alpharetta store will be having a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, August 6th from 10 AM to 2 PM. If you’re in the Atlanta area, the trip up could earn you gift cards and other fun prizes.

Home Decorators collection is located at 13913 Manchester Road in Town & Country, Missouri.  It’s open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM and Sundays from 11 AM to 6 PM. You can find them online at http://www.homedecorators.com/.
