Next year will mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Right now, two Titanic museums are planning for this anniversary in a Titanic way. (Have you had enough of the puns? I’ll behave now)
Both the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and the Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri have worked together to create the “Back to Titanic 100th Year ‘Tour Ireland’ Sweepstakes”. What that means is 6 lucky winners will get to take a guest along with them on a 10-night trip to Belfast, Ireland where the Titanic was created. During your trip you’ll tour the shipyard where the Titanic was built, honor the 100th anniversary of the ship’s departure, hear a presentation from Rory Golden who was one of the original divers to reach the Titanic, and visit the Titanic memorial. You’ll also get to explore Ireland from Dublin, to the Blarney Stone, and Killarney to the Cliffs of Moher. The trip takes place April 8-18, 2012. Check out the full itinerary.
In the mean time, visit both the Pigeon Forge and Branson locations of the Titanic museums as they work to honor the rise and fall of the Titanic. In July they’ll be creating a rose petal tribute and in August they’ll be having another contest that pays homage to the 1997 movie Titanic.
In April you can expect the anniversaries to bring more history to light so stay tuned for more details on new artifacts, exhibits, memorials, and the re-release of the movie. We’ll post more as details are finalized but we can say both museums will be offering candlelight memorials on June 14 and June 15, 2012 to honor the lives and deaths of those on board the RMS Titanic.
