Travel Bites: Cleaning

After coming back from Mexico, I had a problem. My husband and I had worn beach coverups over our swimsuits. We wore them lounging around, on a boat and when we got home they were filthy.

I ran them through the wash but they came out still with the grease of sunscreen, the yellowing of sun stains, and the salt of the ocean still in the fabric.

The solution? I filled a sink with hot water and added 4 scoops of Oxi Clean.

After it dissolved, I added the shirts in the sink. Within 10 minutes the water was already yellow and nasty, which I figured meant success. I changed the water and added a few more scoops of Oxi Clean and let them soak for a total of 8 hours. Afterwards I threw the clothes in the wash again and presto! cleaner than ever.

I’ve had my can of Oxi Clean for 2 years now and this was the first time I’ve ever really used it and it was a great success. If you’re traveling, I would suggest bringing any wet or gross items home in a garbage bag you packed ahead in your luggage. Soak all those clothes as soon as you get home and while you unpack. Then just throw them in the wash with your other dirty things and you won’t be doing extra loads of laundry like I had to.
