Summer Vacation: Branson, Missouri

Branson, Missouri is a small town that has become a large city with the increase of tourists visiting it each year. It has become famous for its shows, outlet shopping, lakes, and small-scale theme parks inside the city limits. For St. Louis and Kansas City natives, Branson has become a regular getaway for families each year. You’ll want to get in on this place before the rest of the country finds out.

  • Best Western Music Capital Inn: Voted a Travelers’ Choice Winner for Family, this hotel features many great amenities. Breakfast includes sausage gravy and pancakes, the pool is filled with saltwater and there’s a sauna nearby.

Famous Dave's

  • Cantina Laredo: A high-quality Mexican food place where guacamole is made table-side, a kids menu is available for both the young children and preteens, and plenty of drinks are available.
  • Famous Dave’s: This place has good barbecue with St. Louis style ribs, beef brisket, beans, coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, and cornbread. It’s fun-filled and full of good cooking.
  • Silver Dollar City: Inside Silver Dollar City, there are many delicious food options. At Hannah’s Ice Cream Factory you can get many sweet treats including Georgia peach and butter pecan. You’ll also find frozen lemonade stands in the park (get the souvenir cup for cheaper refills), and at the Apple Butter Shop you have to try the Blackberry Butter. Anytime I hear someone is visiting Branson I make them bring a jar back for me.

    • Silver Dollar City: This theme park is about more than just rides. The park itself is themed after an 1880s Ozark village. Inside you’ll find a real cave to tour, restaurants, shops, and shows. One of my favorite things has to be the demonstrations. You can see glass being blown, woodworking, candy being made, and pottery being thrown. I always make some dipped candles when I visit here, in between repeated roller coaster rides. For kids, in June and July you can experience National Kids’ Fest with extra shows, cartoon characters, and a new section of the park.
    • Shows: There are many show options in town and nearly all are family-friendly. I’ve personally never been to a show here but from family and friends I can make some great recommendations. My college roommate loved The Haygoods for their fiddle playing and the cute boys, my grandparents love Presley’s Country Jubilee for the humor, and my parents loved the Dixie Stampede for the horses.
    • The Track: If shows aren’t your thing but you still want evening fun, consider one of The Track’s locations. You can enjoy 4-story go karting, arcades, bumper boats, mini golf, and laser tag.
    • Table Rock Lake: The lake here is quite popular with locals. There’s a marina where you can enjoy swimming and boating or even parasailing. You can visit the lake’s dam or even the adjacent fish hatchery. Consider experiencing the lake by riding the Ducks around as well.

  • Titanic: Visit this permanent exhibit where you are labeled with a Titanic passenger’s name while touring the exhibit. You can walk on a replica of the Grand Staircase, touch a frozen iceberg, see the model used in the movie, see many artifacts and best of all, the exhibit has been made kid-friendly.

Branson Duck Boat

  • Best for: Families with smaller children or even older ones
  • Not For: People who don’t like small towns, shows, or theme parks. Certain activities may be harder for those with mobility issues.
  • Notable: There are now limited flight options in and out of Branson. Renting a car is still probably your best option when you arrive.
  • Budget: Moderate. With parks, shows, and other entertainment things can add up. Consider choosing events wisely to stay on target with your prices and limit souvenirs by planning ahead.

  • Buy a season pass to Silver Dollar City for less than the cost of 2 1-day tickets. You’ll want to spend at least 2 days in the park so this is a great way to save and be eligible for additional discounts.
  • Buy your rides at The Track ahead of time and save up to 10%.
