5 Things: Vermont

In honor of Vermont achieving 220 years of statehood, here are 5 Things you could be doing in this great state. Happy anniversary Vermont!

The Vermont Maple Festival

Maple Sugaring Time

What could be more Vermont than a maple sugar festival? Head to St. Albans, Vermont the weekend of April 15-17 for a chance to catch all the fun. This year will be the 45th annual festival and it will have cooking contests for guests to take part in. The weekend features craft fairs, pancake breakfasts, a “sap” run, a parade, carnival, sugarhouse tours and of course maple syrup.

Stowe Mountain Resort

Stowe Mountain Resort of Stowe, Vermont has been featured here before as one of the best girlfriend getaways. We raved about its spa and luxury before. But its most popular feature is the skiing and snowboarding adventures. The resort area includes Mt. Mansfield, the area’s highest peak, but it also has smaller trails for beginners. You can even enjoy cross-country skiing and snowboarding. They just got hit with more snow so now might be the time to go.

British School of Falconry

In a throwback to Vermont’s early history and settlers, the British School of Falconry in Manchester, Vermont allows you to have hands on experience with birds of prey. Your visit will include informative lessons on falconry and its history. After that, you’ll be given a small hawk you can fly yourself. It’s one of the top-ranked attractions in the state according to TripAdvisor.

Appalachian Trail Adventures opens its season May 27 and runs through October 10. They describe themselves as a “hiking spa” and offer hiking packages in and around the Green Mountains of Vermont. They offer many all-inclusive plans including a hiking package, hiking and yoga, hiking and spa, and a kayaking package. The packages typically include a group guide, air-conditioned shelter, 3 spa meals, snacks, and afternoon activities.

Church Street Marketplace

In Burlington, Vermont you can find Church Street Marketplace. It’s a pedestrian marketplace tucked away with shops and restaurants throughout. While you’ll see several chain stores and restaurants here, it’s really about the independent businesses. Nestled between shopping spots you might notice a kettle corn vendor or even a street performer.
