The Badger State

Superbowl XLV will feature the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. In honor of the NFC Champion team, today we’ll look at the great state of Wisconsin for 5 Things to do and see in this state.

1. Bay Beach Amusement Park

Eli Wheel and Helicopters

Right in the home of the Packers, this Green Bay park features retro charm and family fun. Bay Beach reopens in May and with it will come a brand new roller coaster and the opening of the park’s new expansion. The new roller coaster is actually an old one, being brought from Libertyland in Memphis to Green Bay and bringing with it the history of being Elvis Presley’s favorite ride. Keeping with the nostalgic feel, rides cost tickets instead of park admission and no ride costs more than $1.

2. Summerfest

Each summer in Milwaukee, Summerfest comes to town for 11 days. This year’s event will take place June 29-July 10 with a day off for Independence Day. Performances will take place on 11 stages and is billed as the “World’s Largest Music Festival”. Artists will be announced over the coming months though Toby Keith and Katy Perry are confirmed to be at the event. On-site activities include a 10K, a half-marathon, and international booths.

3. Lakefront Brewery

While you’re in Milwaukee, don’t miss out on the Lakefront Brewery tour. At the United States Beer Tasting Championship, they were the only stateside brewery to win 3 Grand Champion awards. A brewery tour includes a souvenir pint glass, four pours of beer and a coupon for 1 free beer at one of the bars in town. Tip: Buy tickets in advance to make sure the tour doesn’t sell out.

4. Door County

Door County is a perfect place to experience the great outdoors. It’s right on the Lake Michigan peninsula and has easy access to water and the lake-area geography. Most people visit Peninsula State Park to experience camping, biking, boating, trails, kayaking, and beautiful scenery. A word of warning, my mother became so infatuated on her trip that for Christmas she asked for, and received, a kayak of her own.

5. Wisconsin Dells

My mother experiencing the joys of ziplining

Wisconsin Dells is an area with fun for the whole family. For the adventurous type, try ziplining at Bigfoot Zipline. It’s the #1 attraction in the Wisconsin Dells with 6 different zipline offerings. The area really appeals to those who love swimming, with indoor and outdoor waterparks dotting the landscape. Consider stopping by Noah’s Ark Water Park, America’s largest waterpark. The park features a whopping 49 water rides (including America’s Longest Watercoaster), 2 wave pools, a 4-D “dive-in” theater, kiddie pools and rides, 2 “endless rivers”, an arcade, mini golf and bumper boats.

Are you a fan of any Wisconsin attractions? Leave your reviews or tell us what we missed in the comments.
