Vegas Week: Top 5 Pool Picks

Still deciding on a hotel for your next Las Vegas stay? Don’t be afraid to let the pool choices of the hotels tempt you. Everything in Vegas is bigger and that includes the pools. Here are TravelHyper’s top 5 Vegas pool picks:

5. The Tropicana

The Tropicana’s pools were recently voted “Best Las Vegas Pool” in a survey. The pool takes its tropical theme seriously, spreading its pools across 4 acres and connected them by channels while interspersing them with tropical flowers, palm trees, mists and waterfalls. Head to Leblon Cove to enjoy drinks and swim-up blackjack or enjoy Osaka Sushi, recently voted “Best Sushi in Las Vegas”, while at the poolside.

In Spring 2011, look for a new pool experience at Nikki Beach. This exclusive pool club will feature a restaurant, an outdoor cafe and bar, swim up blackjack, sand volleyball courts, outdoor concert space and a private island.

4. The Mirage

The Mirage features 2 heated pools surrounded by a quarter mile of shoreline, a slide connecting the pools and 6 waterfalls. Enjoy food and drinks at Paradise Café or the Dolphin Bar. The Dolphin Bar is aptly named as it is located by the Dolphin Habitat, a 2.5-million-gallon home to a family of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. You can even take part in the Trainer for a Day program, where you can swim with the dolphins.

Another pool area at The Mirage is Bare, an adult-only VIP area. You’ll find music, drinks, cabanas and cocktails here while you mingle with the elite guests of The Mirage. Careful though, you might find the attire here lives up to its name.

3. Flamingo Las Vegas

Spread across 15 acres, the Flamingo Las Vegas has 3 pools and 2 hot tubs surrounded by landscaping that reminds you of Hawaii. There’s a 150-foot waterslide, a heated pool, swim-up blackjack and even a cave to slip away from the sun. Rent a cabana here and be treated to a tropical oasis featuring a misting system, TV and internet, food and personal cocktail service. You can get a bite to eat at the Beach Club or the Poolside BBQ or enjoy one of the three bars here.

For adults, be sure to visit GO Pool. You’ll enjoy music provided by a DJ, cocktail service and a waterfall backdrop. Again, as an adult club you may see European style bathing here.

2. MGM Grand

The MGM Grand has 5 pools and 3 whirlpools all connected by bridges. You’ll also discover a lazy river circling the area with fountains and waterfalls thrown in. Each of the pools has a name and a theme with the Director’s pool for adults. Grab a bite at the Cabana Grill or one of the five bars here.

You’ll also find Wet Republic, an adult VIP experience. It features two saltwater pools, eight smaller pools and spas, Bungalows, cabanas, and daybeds. This is where you’ll be likely to find celebrities, as musical artists Diddy, will.i.am, Ashley Tisdale and Avril Lavigne have all made appearances here.

1. Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay doesn’t just feature a pool,  it features three and a beach. There are 11 acres of land in the pool areas here at Mandalay Bay featuring three pools, a lazy river, a wave pool and 1700 tons of sand. Waves here get as high as 6 feet. In the summer, you’ll find a summer concert series featuring top artists. Grab a bite to eat nearby at the Beach Bar & Grill. Adjacent to the pool area is the Beachside Casino, a three-story glass-front casino area. On the top level you’ll find Villa Soleil, a villa area with its own entertainment and private pool.

Adults at Mandalay Bay can head to the Moorea Beach Club. Expect loud music and poolside massages here. You’ll find day beds, opium beds and TVs in this private area. While it might sound like a party atmosphere, it’s mostly a place for those seeking a little seclusion and privacy to escape to, as the high cover charge often keeps out larger groups. There has been a topless sunbathing policy change and at the moment it is no longer allowed.
