Day Four

  • Drive 3 hours from Leicester to Malham.
  • Malham Cove

  • Head approximately 1 km north of the city to Malham Cove.
    • The large rock wall formed here after a glacier melted and a waterfall carved the natural landscape.
    • Tip: You can park in town, grab supplies for a picnic lunch and walk to the Cove to eat with a beautiful backdrop.
    • Camera crews came to here and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales National Park to shoot backgrounds for the camping scenes in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
  • Drive 2.5 hours northeast to Goathland in North Yorkshire.
  • 2007 05 21_Goathland North Yorkshire-0705-1.jpg

  • Visit the Goathland Railway Station.
    • Goathland Railway Station was the station used as the backdrop for the Hogsmeade Station. The Hogwarts Express would arrive here and students would take boats or carriages up to Hogwarts.
    • This station is prominently featured at the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
  • Stay in Goathland for the night. In the summer months the town gets full of tourists so you may want to book in advance.

Check back tomorrow as we continue Northern England in day 5 of your road trip.

I'm Julie, I love to travel, I'm very hyper and I like to "hype" things and from that, TravelHyper was born. I'm a Missouri native and I cover St. Louis travel ideas as well as my own travels. I also like to focus on places I want to visit and budget travel ideas by creating trip plans. There's so much world out there and I hope you'll find that it's worth seeing and that vacation doesn't have to be out of reach to you.
