Wizarding Week: Detours and Tours

Detours

Check this map for several shooting locations that weren’t on your tour. Places include:

  • Australia House, London, England
    Strand, Australia House
Generally closed to the public, its interior was used as the Gringott’s Lobby in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
  • Cape Wrath, Sutherland, Scotland

The north-western-most point of Great Britain’s mainland. Very hard to reach, you’ll need to go in on foot or by ferry. This area’s rocks and caves were used when Harry and Dumbledore searched for the Horcrux in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. According to ScotlandonSunday, areas scouted here include Smoo Cave, Clo Mor, the arches under Cape Wrath, Stac Clo Kearvaig and the cave at the Whaligoe Steps.

  • 12 Picket Post Close, Winkfield, Bracknell, Berkshire, England

This private home was used as the set of 4 Privet Drive, home of the Dursleys. This is a private residence and trespassing is forbidden.

cliffs of moher

These cliffs are again seen in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when Dumbledore and Harry search for the Horcrux. They land on a rock just off the cliffs and stare into the Cliffside plotting their way.

  • Lemon Rock, County Kerry, Ireland

In reality, the rock Harry and Dumbledore is here on Lemon Rock, which has been digitally transposed into the water below the Cliffs of Moher.

JK Rowling had the town of Lavenham in mind when she described the town of Godric’s Hallow in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Therefore, it’s only fitting that the town’s guildhall be used as James and Lily Potter’s house in the final movie.

While West Coast Railways’ rail line is undergoing some changes, the locomotive used as the Hogwarts Express is currently staying in this museum.

I’m Julie, I love to travel, I’m very hyper and I like to “hype” things and from that, TravelHyper was born.

I’m a Missouri native and I cover St. Louis travel ideas as well as my own travels. I also like to focus on places I want to visit and budget travel ideas by creating trip plans. There’s so much world out there and I hope you’ll find that it’s worth seeing and that vacation doesn’t have to be out of reach to you.
